- Angina Pectoris
- SYMPTOMS. The first sign is pain in the center of the chest, behind the
- breastbone. This is usually brought on by overexertion. The pain may spread
- to the fingers via the left shoulder and down the inside of the left arm. It
- may go straight through into the back. Another line may be into the throat,
- jaw and teeth and down the right arm. The pain usually stops when the
- activity stops. If not, this may indicate a heart attack.
- CAUSES. It is caused by a coronary artery disease. The fatty deposits reduce
- circulation in the arteries feeding the heart muscle.
- TREATMENT. Surgery bypass of the coronary artery may be required.
- .Nitroglycerin or other drugs may be prescribed to stop angina attacks.
- .The underlying coronary artery disease must be treated.
- .Smoking, excess weight and high blood pressure will have to be corrected.
